Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 Small-Medium tomato (diced)
  • 1-2 jalapeño or serrano peppers (optional, finely chopped)
  • 1-2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Lime juice (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pinch of ground cumin optional, adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  • Mash the avocados with a fork or potato masher until smooth or slightly chunky, depending on your preference.
  • Add the chopped onion, diced tomatoes, chopped peppers (if using), minced garlic, and chopped cilantro to the mashed avocados.
  • Squeeze fresh lime juice over the mixture, starting with about half a lime, and add salt to taste.
  • Mix all the ingredients together until well combined.
  • Taste the guacamole and adjust the lime juice, salt, and other seasonings as needed to taste.
  • Serve guacamole with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, salads, and more.

Notes

  • Sweetness: If you’d like to add a touch of sweetness to your guacamole, try stirring in ½ to 1 teaspoon of honey. Add more gradually until you reach your desired flavour.
  • Spice Level: Adjust the heat by varying the amount of jalapeño or serrano peppers. Add more for extra spice, or omit them entirely if you prefer a milder version.
  • Lime Juice: Lime juice not only adds tang but also helps preserve the guacamole and prevent browning. If you notice any oxidation, just stir before serving.
  • Preventing Browning: To further preserve the vibrant green color, add a thin layer of finely chopped or sliced onion on top of the guacamole before sealing the container.
  • Storage: For the best taste and freshness, transfer guacamole to an airtight container and refrigerate. It should stay fresh for 3-4 days.
