Crispy Garlic Chips
Crispy garlic chips bring a satisfying crunch and a burst of delicious garlic flavour to any dish. Made from thinly sliced garlic cloves, fried until golden and crisp, they’re the perfect topping for salads, tartares, soups, pasta, or anything that could use a flavourful crunch.
Equipment
- Mandoline slicer or Fine sharp knife
- Slotted Spoon
- Paper towels
Ingredients
- 2 full medium-large heads of garlic peeled and thinly sliced
- ½ cup olive oil or vegetable oil
- Salt to to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Peel the garlic cloves from the full head of garlic and thinly slice them into shavings. A sharp knife or mandoline slicer works well for this.
- Heat the olive oil or vegetable oil in a small skillet over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the sliced garlic shavings to the skillet in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Fry the garlic shavings for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and crispy. Keep a close watch as they can quickly go from golden to burnt.
- Once crispy, use a slotted spoon to transfer the garlic shavings to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Sprinkle the crispy garlic shavings with salt to taste, if desired, while they are still warm.
- Allow the garlic shavings to cool completely before using them as a crunchy topping for salads, soups, tartars, pasta, or any other dish of your choice.
Notes
- Storage Instructions: Store leftover crispy garlic chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month.
- Avoid Refrigeration: Storing in the refrigerator can introduce moisture, which may cause the chips to lose their crispiness.
- Batch Preparation: This recipe can easily be multiplied to make larger quantities. Adjust the ingredients accordingly, and you’ll have a batch of flavourful crispy garlic ready for future use.
- Try adding a pinch of sea salt or freshly ground black pepper for extra flavor.
- Consider tossing the garlic chips with chili flakes or herbs like rosemary or thyme for a unique twist.
- Serving Suggestions: Use these crispy garlic chips as a topping for soups, salads, pasta, or roasted vegetables for added crunch and flavour.
