
Chicken Shish Taouk

- 8 skewers (soaked)
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast cut into medium sized chunks
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves crushed
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp paprika
- ¾ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp oregano
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, add the ingredients for the marinade (yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, tomato paste, paprika, cinnamon, oregano, ground ginger, salt, and black pepper) and whisk to combine.
- Place the chicken cubes in the same bowl and coat the chicken in the marinade. Cover and let rest/marinate in the fridge for at least 4 hours.
- Thread the chicken on skewers right before grilling. Add one wedge of onion to each skewer, if desired.
- Grill on medium heat for 5-8 minutes per side.
- Serve with pita bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickled turnip, and garlic sauce. Enjoy!
Notes
Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for upto 3-4 days
Reheating:
- In the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the chicken on a baking sheet and cover loosely with foil. Heat for 10-12 minutes or until warmed through.
- On the Stovetop: Heat a skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil, and cook the chicken pieces for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through.
- Microwave: Place the chicken in a microwave-safe dish and cover with a damp paper towel. Heat for 1-2 minutes or until warm.
- Condiments: A side of garlic sauce or tahini makes for a perfect dip with your Shish Taouk.
- Vegetable Pairing: Serve with grilled or roasted vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or zucchini on the same skewers for a complete meal.
- Serving Platter: Remove the chicken from the skewers and place it on a serving platter. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges for extra flavour.
- Side Dishes: Pair with warm pita bread, hummus, and a side of tabbouleh or fattoush salad for a well-rounded meal.
