Sweet & Savoury Roasted Apples
Sweet, savoury, and perfectly roasted. These apples are a game-changer! The butter caramelizes them just enough, while a touch of salt and thyme balances out their natural sweetness. They’re golden, tender, and ridiculously good alongside pork. Whether you keep them simple or add a sprinkle of brown sugar for extra indulgence, these roasted apples are an easy, flavourful side dish you’ll want to make again and again!
Ingredients
- 2-3 apples such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith
- 1-2 tbsp butter melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves optional
- 1 tbsp brown sugar optional, but recommended, for extra sweetness
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Core and slice the apples into wedges (about 8-10 wedges per apple). You can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrients.
- In a large bowl, toss the apple wedges with melted butter, salt, and pepper. For extra sweet touch, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and add the fresh thyme leaves (if using) for a hint of herby flavour.
- Arrange the apple wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet. Ensure that the apples are not crowded for even roasting.
- Roast for about 12 minutes, or until the apples are tender and golden brown on the edges. Stir halfway through to ensure even roasting.
- Once roasted, remove from the oven and serve immediately. These roasted apples are perfect along side pork dishes, chicken, or even on their own.
Notes
For extra flavour: Add a splash of apple cider.
For a warm twist: Sprinkle in a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a cozy, comforting flavour.
