Cheesy Bacony Puff Pastry Twists

FAQ
Can I make these bacon twists ahead of time?
Yes. Assemble a few hours ahead and refrigerate until baking, or bake ahead and reheat in the oven.
Can I use raw bacon instead of cooked bacon?
It’s best to cook the bacon first. Raw bacon releases too much fat and can make the pastry greasy.
Can I use different cheese?
Yes. Cheddar, Gruyère, Swiss, Gouda, smoked cheddar, or a mix all work well.
Why didn’t my puff pastry puff up?
Warm pastry or overhandling are common causes. Keep it cold and chill the twists before baking if needed.
Chef’s Tip
- Cook bacon until crisp to keep the twists flaky, not greasy.
- Chill assembled twists for 10–15 minutes if the pastry gets soft.
- Fresh herbs add great flavour, chives, parsley, and thyme work especially well.
- Don’t overfill, too much cheese can cause leaking.
