Cheesy Bacony Puff Pastry Twists

These cheesy bacon twists are one of those appetizers that are hard to keep around for long. Buttery puff pastry is filled with crispy bacon, melted cheese, fresh herbs, and a little garlic before being twisted into golden, flaky bites. They’re simple, comforting, and just fancy enough for a party.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry thawed according to package instructions
  • 1 cup cooked bacon finely diced
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves or ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 small garlic clove finely grated or minced
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • pinch cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Cook bacon until crisp, then drain and finely dice. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Place one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Brush lightly with egg wash.
  • Sprinkle half of the cheddar, Parmesan, bacon, herbs, garlic, and seasonings evenly over the pastry.
  • Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and gently press together. Brush the top with egg wash.
  • Cut the pastry into 12 strips. Twist each strip several times to create a spiral shape.
  • Place twists onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each one.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until puffed, golden brown, and crisp.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
    • These twists are best served fresh while the pastry is still crisp, but they can easily be made ahead and reheated before serving.

Notes

Variations
  • Spicy Bacon Twists: Add sliced jalapeños or extra cayenne.
  • Everything Bagel Style: Add everything bagel seasoning before baking.
  • Different Cheese: Try Gruyère, Swiss, or smoked cheddar.
 
Storage
  • Leftovers: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Fridge: Keep refrigerated once cooled.
  • Freezer: Freeze baked twists for up to 2 months. 
  • Reheating: Reheat from frozen for best texture.
    • Warm in a 350°F oven for 5–10 minutes until crisp again.
    • Avoid microwaving if possible, the pastry will soften.
